"something, I don't know what"
| "something, I don't know what" is a series of 16 playful mixed media collage drawings that invites the viewer into collaboration to create an ever-changing artwork. All works include combinations of watercolour, gouache, charcoal, crayon and collage papers on d'Arches rag paper. The compositional framework is simultaneously static and dynamic. This characteristic makes this body of work ideal to present as a collaborative installation. The image, in digital format, is embedded within a chalkboard framework measuring 100 cm wide × 81 cm high (39 in wide × 32 in high). Each chalkboard panel holds coloured chalks and eraser to encourage a participatory response. The opportunity to write on a chalkboard shifts the focus from the 'precious' nature of a framed image and frees one to take part in the creative process and respond to the images. "something, I don't know what", a solo exhibition and installation, curated by Caroline Loewen, is part of the Alberta Foundation for the Arts Travelling Exhibition Program (TREX) in Alberta. The show will travel to many venues throughout the province including schools throughout Sept 2014 to August 2016. At the end of each exhibition, the participants' contributions will be documented and then erased before the show travels to the next venue. |
