Point no Point
Solo exhibition June 1 - June 30, 2007 White River Junction Vermont, USA Point no Point is actually a place on Vancouver Island so named by the fact that it looks like a point from one direction but not a point from the other direction. I felt Point no Point to be an appropriate Zen title for my new works to be shown in Vermont next spring as it points to the illusory quality of our perceptions. These works are an exploration of the relative and mystical relationships of form, space and colour. I like to think of these paintings as visual haiku. K.Yasuda, author of Japanese Haiku, makes a comparison of haiku and painting, he states, "haiku has something in common with painting, in the representation of the object alone, without comment, never presented to be other than what it is but not represented completely as it is." |
