Two Sides of the Story
| "Two Sides of the Story" (2019-2020), is a new collaborative project involving imagery and text. This exchange continues the expression of an eighteen-year artistic kinship between Taoist artist poet Deng Ming-Dao and myself. The twenty-four oil paintings in the series are inspired by the well-known line from the Heart Sutra in Mahayana Buddhism, "Form is emptiness and emptiness is form". The imagery in the paintings evolves through the interplay of the medium and reflects a search for a middle ground between two opposing perspectives. Each image is intended as a portal allowing for a simultaneous interpretation of the two viewpoints. The paintings are numbered and deliberately untitled so that Ming-Dao can add his side of the story. |
